In popular culture, AI has always been a fascinating and captivating subject. It often appears in movies, TV shows, and books, where it's portrayed as advanced robots or intelligent computer systems. These AI characters are often depicted as having human-like qualities, emotions, and even the ability to challenge and outsmart their creators. Think of famous examples like HAL 9000 from "2001: A Space Odyssey" or the terminators from the "Terminator" series. These portrayals have sparked curiosity and fear about the potential of AI in the real world, blurring the lines between science fiction and reality.

Early AI in science fiction:

Early science fiction works like Isaac Asimov's robot stories and Arthur C. Clarke's "2001: A Space Odyssey" introduced us to fascinating ideas about artificial intelligence (AI). In Asimov's robot stories, he envisioned a world where robots were programmed with Three Laws of Robotics, designed to ensure their ethical behavior towards humans. These laws became a fundamental concept in AI ethics.

In "2001: A Space Odyssey," Clarke introduced us to HAL 9000, an intelligent computer with human-like abilities to control and interact with the spacecraft. HAL's portrayal raised questions about the relationship between humans and AI, and the potential risks and ethical dilemmas that could arise as AI becomes more advanced.

In early science fiction stories, AI characters had some common themes and limitations. They often dealt with issues like following orders or rebelling, facing moral dilemmas, and sometimes, becoming a threat to humans. However, these AI characters lacked emotions like humans and were limited to specific tasks. They needed humans to give them commands and couldn't think or adapt on their own. These portrayals of AI in early works made people both curious and cautious about the potential of AI in real life.
